Our Blood Oath by Kakazu Kazu is a fairly new shounen manga from Shounen Jump! As good as the story is though, it is only a oneshot. That's right, folks, this is also a short-lived manga series like Guardian of the Witch by Sakano Asahi and Time Paradox Ghostwriter by Ichima Kenji. They all have amazing stories that could very well keep going in a serial but unfortunately, they don't last.
The series follows brothers Shin and Ko Hitsuki, a human and vampire, through some trials and tribulations concerning the divide between their races. Shin is a human that was adopted into a royal vampire family to be the big brother of Ko, but when their family is killed Shin has to step up and be the protector that Ko needs. Soon enough though, vampires target them due to the bloodline of which Ko is from, making life that much harder for them...
(SPOILER WARNING! START)
There isn't too much to this series, so I am going to try and go through things fairly quickly from what I can remember. Ko and Shin both go to school, Ko goes to elementary while Shin is a high schooler. They have a blood oath that makes it possible for Shin to fight vampires and not be defeated right away and since Ko is from a royal bloodline, his powers are incredible for his age.
They are targeted by some vampires who don't believe that vampires and humans can coexist, which is what the Hitsuki family believed in before their demise. The enemy vampires target one of Shin's friends and his family, which they are able to save and the secret of vampires is revealed to said friend who doesn't think any less of them since they helped save his family.
Next, a little vampire girl and her human friend that Shin and Ko know are targeted. The vampire girl is starved to near death and partially turns into a vampiric beast, a type of feral vampire, and kills her friend due to starvation. She is then traumatized by the event and doesn't go back to school and there is no going back from becoming a vampiric beast and so she is stuck.
Soon enough, the vampires who were messing with Shin and Ko in such a roundabout way come forward and there is a huge fight, and we learn why this particular member of the vampiric organization hates humans. Then Shin and Ko's uncle show up, the brother of their mother, and capture the two enemies, the vampire and his retainer of sorts.
It is then that they are at the uncle's house, where he is trying to teach the vampire boy a lesson, starving him until he was almost a vampiric beast. But then, the little vampire girl from before is brought to the house to decide whether or not he should completely be turned into what he forced her into and she is just so kind. She feeds him blood because she didn't want to wish anybody else the same fate despite the fact that he was the one who did that to her.
(SPOILER WARNING! END)
The manga was really short and honestly it's really disappointing. I feel like this series could've gotten further but was just ended too prematurely and in a bit of a cliff-hanger fashion. I don't recommend this manga for those who want a vampiric story. This just isn't worth your time to be quite honest with you.
Shounen Jump has a lot of series they're putting out on the app that are very short-lived and honestly I don't think the app is worth reading unless you have the membership to read more than just the free chapters. I wish I had the membership, I could read through all the volumes of Naruto or reread Assassination Classroom so I can do more manga posts. Well, that's all I really have to say on the matter, I hope you guys enjoyed this review despite the shortness of it. Thanks so much for reading!
