Anime: The Seven Deadly Sins by Nakaba Suzuki (Season 1)

Nanatsu no taizai (TV Series 2014– ) - IMDb

This highly popular anime, The Seven Deadly Sins by Suzuki Nakaba, has finally hit my eyeballs! The third princess of Liones, Elizabeth, goes on a journey to seek out a team of criminals, the Seven Deadly Sins, who were the strongest Holy Knights in the kingdom, until they tried to usurp the throne. Now the Holy Knights have taken over the kingdom in the king's place and Elizabeth is trying to put a stop to them.

The anime has become very popular since its release way back in 2014 and is still ongoing! Hopefully, I'll get to finish season three before four releases but who knows? Now, Elizabeth meets Meliodas, the former captain of the Sins and they team up, with a talking pig named Hawk, to try and find the rest of them to save the kingdom.

(SPOILER WARNING! START)

Introduction arc | Nanatsu no Taizai Wiki | FandomThe first episode starts with a young boy, at least it looks like a young boy, who is the owner of a tavern, The Boar's Hat. Soon, a rusty armored person walks into the tavern, scaring all the other customers out. The suit collapses in front of the boy and the helmet comes off, revealing a cute girl. He puts her in his bed and examines her to see if she is okay, in his own perverted way, groping her an the such. It is rumoured that the rusted hunk of junk, the Rust Knight, housed one of the Sins, but that wasn't the case, although knights came anyways from town to capture the girl, Elizabeth. The boy helps Elizabeth escape, saving her from near death and then fights a Holy Knight Apprentice, Twigo. Elizabeth mistakes him for a real Holy Knight, seeing his strength, but later learns from the boy, Meliodas, the Dragon Sin of Wrath, that he wasn't and it frightens her. Meliodas wins and they head back to The Boar's Hat where Meliodas tells her that he will help to find the rest of his comrades.

The next sin they find is Diane, the Serpent Sin of Envy and a giant, who is also in love with Meliodas, in the Forest of White Dreams. Soon after they find Diane, Meliodas fights a Holy Knight named Gilthunder, who Meliodas used to train when Gil was a boy. Anyways, Meliodas defeats Gilthunder and the group heads off to the next Sin, Ban. Ban is being held at Baste Prison and they head to it. While on the way there though, Meliodas faints, the damage from his wounds being too much for him. Elizabeth, Diane, and Hawk take him into town to get a doctor to heal Meliodas and once they do so, Diane heads to the prison. After Diane leaves them, some fighting with Holy Knights happen, Meliodas wakes up, and they break Ban out of prison even though he really broke himself out. The antics between Ban and Meliodas are absolutely hilarious and I enjoy their friendship.

Next they try to find King near Necropolis, who they find but is trying to kill Ban. King finds out Ban was involved with Elaine's, his younger sister's, death and we get to see flashbacks that show Ban and Elaine's relationship. They fell in love and while a demon was attacking the Fairy King's Forest, Ban tried to protect everything but was nearly killed and Elaine healed him using the Fountain of Youth. The fountain gives eternal life if drank but the forest will wither and die. Elaine did the anime kiss thing to get him to drink the water and he ends up killing the demon but losing Elaine.

Seven Deadly Sins: 10 Facts You Didn't Know About Elaine | CBR

King didn't know the real circumstances behind Elaine's death, but when they get to Necropolis due to Ban's memories, Elaine's soul meets Ban and King, telling King to protect Ban. While this is going on, the rest of the group is fighting toe-to-toe with another Holy Knight, Guila. The others are having problems with defeating her and Ban and King go to help. After this endeavour, King is appalled by the fact that the rest of the Sins don't have their sacred treasures, their personal weapons that are fundamental in battle.

The next quest that drives this little group of misfits forward is to find each of their sacred treasures and the first one they find is Diane's giant hammer, Gideon...

(SPOILER WARNING! END)

By the end of the first season, they are able to round up six out of seven Sins! This being a shounen anime, of course there are a lot of epic battles that happen throughout the story. And one big bang at the end too! There are some truths revealed by the end that I wasn't expecting at all. To me, the journey kind of ended prematurely but considering the fact that there are more seasons and the manga has not been completed yet, there is still more to come!

I don't have much to say on this anime other than the fact that I really enjoyed it. I know that most shounen anime have different premises and whatnot, but they are all starting to blend together for me. Yes, this is a good anime, but I can't comment on it being amazing. To be completely honest, I'm starting to find shounen anime pretty mediocre. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is amazing and it stands out from the others, but I can't get it out of the middle ranking. If I were to be rating these from A to F, The Seven Deadly Sins would be a C, not horrible but not astounding either. It's enjoyable. Side note: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a C/B, it's not as mediocre as others, but it is just barely scraping by.

I hope you guys enjoyed this! I'm not knocking the series at all, I just think there are better shounen anime out there that people should be watching. I did like this series and you will be seeing me watch the rest, I just hope the story gets more interesting from this point on. Thank you for reading! Catch you next week!
