Anime: 7 Seeds by Yumi Tamura (Season 1)

Is 7 Seeds Worth Watching? - YouTube

I've been binge watching these small twelve episode animes in a day for a little while now and this one takes the cake! This is the third one that I've binged so far, the other two being Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?! and No Game No Life. Now in comparison to the other two, this has a completely different feel to it, not at all related to games in any sort of way! It's actually a post apocalyptic anime where Earth is not how you remember it and try to survive and make the place inhabitable again.

This anime revolves around a whole cast of characters who were chosen for the 7SEEDS Project, a project to cryofreeze a chosen few people, for them to sleep through the crisis of the end of the world, several meteorites were discovered to be heading towards Earth and would impact it heavily. When the world is deemed inhabitable again, the cryopods will open for them to work on survival. This is not my first post apocalyptic anime I've watched and it definitely will not be my last. Tamura Yumi is also the mangaka for Basara, another post apocalyptic manga. They made a short thirteen episode anime out of it that I might review soon. I didn't realize until I looked up the series but then I really looked at the art and Hana looks like Sarasa! Anyways, Basara is one of my favourite manga series ever, along with Red River. I recommend Basara if you like Red River, even though one is historical fiction and the other is science fiction, they are very similar, in a pleasant way.

Anyways, the anime keeps jumping from each of the groups, for us to see what everyone is doing instead of having a linear view and only watching the one group the whole time. I'm going to jump right into things and try to compress and keep this as spoil-free as possible!

(SPOILER WARNING! START)

7seeds anime Tumblr posts - Tumbral.comWe start with a little sneak peek at our main characters in the first episode in the modern day world before everything turns on its head. Then, Iwashimizu Natsu wakes up on a ship with three others in the middle of a storm! They all leave the ship before it sinks and have their introductions by the time they arrive at an island. The other three are Aota Arashi, Asai Semimaru, and Saotome Botan. After a skirmish, Botan is forced to explain the 7SEEDS Project and their role in it, explaining that she was their guide and that they were Team Summer B, consisting of dropouts in life and such, with the exception of Botan-san who used to be a police officer.

So we not talking about 7 SEEDS ANIME (2019)? | Lipstick Alley

For a while we are shown these four and the other three they acquire, there are supposed to be seven to a group, and how they survive for a while before we are shown another group. The second group, Team Spring, consists of Sugurono Hana, who is also Arashi's girlfriend, Yukima Haru, Nobi Momotaro, Niigusa Hibari and some others that aren't all that important until maybe later on. We are shown how they had been surviving. They had a pig-headed guide that was ready to quickly abandon them but ended up dying to save them, leaving them slightly lost on what to do.

They found out from their guide's dying wish that they needed to go to one of the seven Fujis and that there would be something for them there. Sure enough they get to a Fuji supply and are amazed by everything that was left to them, especially since we don't know how much time has passed since they were frozen. Unfortunately no one could count the seconds from their freeze to the moment that they had awoken, two points if you comment where this is from.

hana sugurono | TumblrBy this time, Team Summer B had already arrived at a Fuji supply and Arashi, Natsu, and Semimaru split from them to head to Tokyo, to see how their home has changed in the last several years. And Arashi wanted to find his girlfriend, Hana. Despite just being 17-years-old, he's willing to go through some crazy lengths for her. Not my problem, on their way to Tokyo, they met Team Autumn who have already been awake for three years! They deal with them and slip away, Team Autumn wasn't all that hospitable, and continue on their way. Soon enough they meet Aramaki Takahiro, who they don't know yet, there were no real introductions, and Aramaki saves Arashi from a giant mutated fish in the water! Aramaki has these two dogs with him, explaining to them that he was part of Team Winter and has been awake for fifteen years, and thus they leave him in the middle of the night, not trusting him...

(SPOILER WARNING! END)

I decided to end it there because after that point you don't get to see Team Summer B much and the focus shifts to Hana and her team, with many spoilers to why they were there and spoiler background stories. I will say that you do see all five teams and the remaining members from each: Team Spring, Team Autumn, Team Winter, Team Summer A, and Team Summer B. The backstory of Team Summer A is a doozy! I was getting emotional myself from all the things happening!

I definitely loved this anime and would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of survival, post-apocalyptic stuff, which I am. Love the movies 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow. Also, just a good survival film is Poseidon as well. Getting back to the point, Tamura Yumi has done it again! She has captivated my attention once more and I can't wait for someone to license the manga in English! I really want to read some more old manga, I can never get enough of the art style and the story telling! This may not have a spot in my absolute favourites, but it is high up there!

If you have already watched this anime, tell what you thought down below! Even if you haven't, tell me if you're at all interested in watching it now! It's available on Netflix due to it being a Netflix original. I am really sorry for sounding rushed when trying to tell the story, but the thing is there is so much going on that it's a little difficult to try to compress all the events in a reasonably length "summary." Thank you guys for reading and maybe I'll come out with the second season next week!
