TV: The Good Place (Season 4)

The Good Place Season 4 Episodes at NBC.com

We are in the final stretch! Season four of The Good Place! This is the absolute final season of the series. Honestly, the journey these guys have gone through these last few years have gotten me emotionally attached. Severely so. This is a very emotionally charged season, not just because it is the last one, but because of the story that takes place.

Things start out with the new experiment, seeing whether or not humans can actually get better. The four new humans are Simone, who we know from season three, Brent, a rich entitled CEO who can do no wrong, John, a gossip columnist, and Linda, an elderly woman who is extremely boring. And with Eleanor as the architect this time around, well things are gonna be a doozy...

(SPOILER WARNING! START)

Well, at this point, I believe, Chidi has already gotten his memories erased. Simone is in complete denial that this is the afterlife and acts like a complete fool throughout the first couple of episodes. Brent is so entitled, he treats Janet as his own personal assistant. And Linda hasn't asked for anything other than mints. Eventually, Linda lashes out on flying day and starts punching people out and when they finally catch her, they call Judge Gen, finding out that Linda was actually just a demon in a human suit to compromise and ruin the experiment.

Judge Gen is absolutely furious when she finds out and with a meeting between her, Shawn, and Michael, they decide that instead of sending a new human they are going to have Chidi count as the fourth human for the experiment.

Things don't go too well for the experiment, due to the humans being unpredictable and didn't respond in similar fashion to themselves when they were in the neighborhood. They have one year for this experiment and near the end Eleanor does a last ditch effort to try and see if their bonding exercises with the experimentees have had any affect. A hole opens up in the middle of the neighborhood, taking Brent down, the one everyone disliked the most. The point of it was for them to save Brent, put aside their dislike of him, and be better people. John and Simone abandon Brent, Chidi stays to save him and just as the the year comes to a close Brent was about to apologize to Chidi, but they all freeze once the timer hits zero.

They all go to Judge Gen afterwards to tally up the points and whatnot, with the end result being that the humans won! They saved humanity! And The Judge's ruling is..

She is planning on ending humanity and starting all over again. Everyone is shocked and she pulls out a car garage button that ends the world. At this point, it becomes a game of keep away. After some bonding done previously with a Bad Janet, she was given the manifesto Michael and Janet wrote last season, and was moved when she read it. Bad Janet starts the game of keep away with the button and then all the Janets: Good, Bad, Neutral, and even Disco,

are called before The Judge. She goes into their Voids, looking for the earth-ending-clicker-thingy, marbleizing them one by one when she doesn't find it.

While Judge Gen is looking around in the Voids for the button, Michael tries to compromise with Shawn on a new system that will make all of them happy. After much compromising, Michael was able to get Shawn on their side while Gen was still trying to find the button. And they give Chidi his memories back so that he can help with coming up with a plan for the new system they are going to create.

By the time Judge Gen returns with the button, the Soul Squad, Michael, Janet, and Shawn are gathered, ready to propose their new plan. Afterwards, they all, excluding Shawn and Gen, go to The Good Place, the real Good Place. As soon as they get there though, it is completely empty, the residents nowhere to be found! And Michael gets tricked into signing legal binding paperwork making him in charge of The Good Place.

They find out that there is a serious problem with The Good Place, the residents become mush, with all their desires and needs met, they get bored of it for eternity. It's like that saying, "too much of a good thing isn't actually all that good." So, the Soul Squad make a plan, creating a portal that ceases their existence when they are ready to move on an away from The Good Place. This works immensely well, and the last episode depicts all of them living life in The Good Place, with the new system in place, welcoming new residents and letting residents who are ready, leave.

Eventually, we see all of the Squad, except for Tahani leave, past the portal. Tahani becomes an architect, believe it or not, she was originally going to go, but then decided she wasn't ready and moved on into a new line of work. Before Eleanor leaves, she helps Michael. Michael has been permitted to live out the rest of his days as a human on Earth! But in the end, all of them end up leaving The Good Place, after spending so long trying to get in. Leaving in such a bittersweet fashion...

(SPOILER WARNING! END)

I can't believe that this is the end. I am so sad but I love the ending. The writers of the show wanted to have it come to a nice conclusion instead of an ongoing ending with loose ends. I cried during the last episode, straight up cried. I am so attached to these guys and seeing them separate, going their own ways, is so heartbreaking to me.

I highly recommend this show, as I have said repeatedly, to those who like happy-go-lucky, family-friendly, hilarious hijinks. I am very sad that things have come to an end, but again, I am happy with how it ended.

We have spent the full month of November talking about The Good Place! Next up, TV show wise, I will be writing about Game of Thrones. I had watched up to season seven and never got the opportunity to watch season eight when it came out, now I am going to be watching the whole series through. Hope you guys will enjoy that when it comes out!

Please comment down below! Have you seen the last season of The Good Place? How did you feel about the ending? Let me know! And on one last note, here is Judge Gen sassing back a Bad Janet.
