I know that I was going to hold off on season two, but I ended up with the urge to see what happens next, so I binged season two. This season picks up right where season one left off. The last episode of season one deviated from the manga, but this season puts it right back on track.
There are so many new characters introduced in the first episode alone! It's near impossible to name them all! But I can say this, they are all distant relatives of the Momobami's, The Hundred Devouring Families. All their family names end in -bami, or -ami in some cases. When I was reading the manga, this struck a chord with me because Yumeko's family name is Jabami. They delve more into this during the season.
I didn't get far enough into the manga to know if this whole season is following those events, but I know the first couple of episodes do. Enough with my tangents, we're just going to start!
(SPOILER WARNING! START)
At the end of last season, Kirari announced that the student council was being disbanded and the position for Student Council President is up for grabs, by gambling of course. All students are given one election coin and the more you accumulate through gambling, the better your standing to become president. Whoever gains the most coins by the time the election period is over, wins.
The election period is only one month and power can shift either which way with that amount of time. Our girl, Yumeko, obviously is only in it for the gambling, she's not aspiring to become the Student Council President. She only wants the chance to continue to gamble. With the Momobami Clan thrown into the mix, there is a lot of struggle for power because whoever from the clan becomes the Student Council President becomes the head of the family.
Right off the bat, the series starts with Yumeko being challenged by one of the clan members, Mushibami Erimi, whose family specializes in torture. Her gamble includes Ikishima Midari, a student council member who became enamoured with Yumeko after their gamble last season. The gamble is just a game of chicken. There is a finger cutting guillotine, each player puts their finger in the slots, slowly cutting the strings. One of the strings is connected to the guillotine, and when that is cut the blade will fall. If you take your finger out before that, you lose. With how Yumeko and Midari are, Erimi wasn't prepared for their personalities and their response to the gamble...

With each episode, Yumeko gets to gamble with each of the new students, all members of the Momobami clan. It is during this season that confirms Yumeko of being part of the clan as well. I haven't gotten that far in the manga so around episode eight or so, I wasn't relying on information I had known prior due to reading it. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Tower of Doors gamble with Sayaka, I remember it happening before the events of season two. It should've been the last episode of season one, as Yumeko's gamble with Kirari right after her gamble with Yumemite. But, it has been a while since I have read the manga, so if I have my order of events wrong, please correct me.
I'm going off on a tangent again, sorry about that. Anyways, I enjoyed this season immensely. It gave a lot of insight to Yumeko and her relations to Kirari, which I know I had been thinking about since the first season and volume. This season also gave Mary a little more screen time, showing a relationship most probably couldn't have imagined for her. The gambles get riskier and riskier and Yumeko is over the moon with the prospect of such a thing.
I am kind of sad that season three hasn't been released yet, but then again season two came out fairly recently, only just a year ago. I will be keeping my eye on this series for the time being, anticipating the time when season three will come out like everyone else.
So, how did you feel about this week's review? I know it was short, but the fact that the actual plot of a new gamble each episode is slightly repetitive, I tried to keep this review as spoil-free as I could. Hope you guys join me next week!

I hope you guys are all keeping safe still, even if COVID-19 is over by the time this releases, it's currently April as I am writing this, I hope this shows people that even though we are technologically advanced, there is the possibility of something like the Black Plague happening again. Hope you are all safe! #stayhome
